Te Whāriki curriculum link - Contribution Goal 3. Children experience an environment where they are encouraged to learn with and alongside others. They will develop the ability to listen to and follow instructions and work cooperatively with others.
This is a great outdoor game, but if you have room it can be done indoors. Involve all the family to make it fun and more interesting.
Choose a person to be the traffic light or stop/go light at one end with all other players a reasonable distance away at the opposite end.
When the traffic light faces the group they say "red light" and everyone must freeze. The traffic light then turns their back to the group and says, "green light" while the rest of the players try to get as close to the traffic light as possible by walking quietly. (No running). The traffic light turns around quickly; again saying, "red light", and the other players must freeze again. If anyone is seen moving, they have to go back to the beginning.
The first person to tag the traffic light wins and gets to be the next traffic light.
