Children can make gifts for someone special using their own art work.
Leaf Printing
Fingerpaint pictures make wonderful wrapping paper
To make fingerpaint (on the stove)
In a saucepan mix ½ cup cornflour with 1 cup of cold water.
Add another cup of water and heat stirring all the time, until mixture thickens.
Add 1 tab of powder paint
(in the microwave)
In a bowl mix ½ cup of cornflour with 2 cups cold water.
Cook for 5 minutes on HIGH, stirring occasionally.
Add 1 tab of powder paint.
Printmaking artwork can be used for decorating cards, book marks and calendars.
Use a variety of different household objects for making different prints. Hands and feet also make good prints.
Make a printing pad
You will need
- a plastic container
- foam sponge curt to fit
- a spoon
- paint.
Fit the sponge into the container. Spoon the paint over the sponge and smooth over. Leave it for a few minutes to allow the sponge to soak up the paints. Prepare a different printing pad for each colour.
Useful objects for printing include keys, buttons, lego, blocks, shells, bottle tops...
Squirt painting
This is a different technique for your child to try. The results can be used for wrapping paper and gifts.
You will need
- Detergent bottles, one for each colour
- Paint mixed to the consistency of detergent
- Paper
- Save detergent bottles and part fill with paint.
- Lay sheets of paper on the ground or attach to a fence or wall.
- Squirt colours onto paper.
