New name for iconic school
The Correspondence School is updating its logo to include a new Māori name for the school. Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu, or Te Kura for short, will be used as the main way to refer to our school from the start of term 1 2010.
Te Kura Chief Executive Mike Hollings says Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu refers to connecting students with learning.
“There is also a wealth of meaning behind the name which reflects the role we play within the education sector, our students and our vision for their achievement.”
Read the Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu page under About us for more about the meaning of the new name.
The name is the result of input and feedback from many of our staff and external stakeholders over the past 18 months. It includes elements of the current branding to help convey the growth and development that has taken place at the school, and builds on the connections that key groups – particularly students, their whanau and communities – have with us and our branding.
Detailed information about the name and logo is on our website under About us and in the February issue of Link Up.
The implementation of Te Kura’s updated branding will be a gradual process, starting with our website and selected printed items. It will be applied to learning resources as they come up for review or reprint. This will enable us to minimise costs and manage the transition with as little disruption to our students and their families as possible.
We are also taking this opportunity to implement a shorter and simpler email address and website URL. Our email address format is now firstname.lastname@tekura.school.nz and our website URL is www.tekura.school.nz. The current email and website addresses will default to the new addresses for some time to come.
