Tū Toa takes top title

Tū Toa has taken the top title at the 2009 New Zealand Secondary Schools Netball Championships.

Last Friday, the team defeated Auckland’s Mt Albert Grammar 34 points to 33 in the grand final match to take the win at Timaru’s SBS Event Centre. Team member Renee Matoe was also announced Attacker of the Tournament.

Tū Toa is an educational initiative based in Palmerston North which has 30 students in Years 9-13 who study with TCS.

The school has participated at the national tournament since it began five years ago and team coach, Yvette McCausland-Durie, says the team’s success was the culmination of a belief and confidence etched through hours of hard work.

250 schools from around New Zealand compete for the top 12 spots at the competition.
